Released in July 1995, this song is the duo's 18th single. Used as a theme song of a popular Japanese drama, "愛していると言ってくれ (Aishiteiru to ittekure)", it became one of the greatest hits of this duo.
This is a song about love. It is still rare in Japanese tradition to say openly to each other "愛してる, aishiteru (I love you)" in everyday life. "好き, suki” (means "like") is more common way to express the feeling of being attracted to someone. It can go beyond "好き” to either "すごく好き, sugoku suki”or "大好き, daisuki” (means "like you very much"). But the word "愛, ai" seems too grand, too serious, too foreign, too phony to use it casually.
But this song invites everyone to express love and to shout it loud. The duo's vocal, Miwa Yoshida is a great singer and lyrics writer. Her lyrics have been put together into the books, "Love" and "Life". These books might be a good textbook for Japanese learners who wish to learn Japanese through Jpop lyrics.
