月のしずく Tsuki no shizuku
RUI
Released in January 2003, this is her 2nd single. Ko Shibasaki, a popular Japanese singer/actress released this song under the name, "RUI" which was the singer's name she took the role in a movie, "黄泉がえり Yomigaeri".
The lyrics are written in a literary style using old Japanese words such as "言の葉, kotonoha" or "泡沫, utakata".

*言ノ葉 Koto no ha
言葉, Kotoba means "words" in Japanese. It came from "言の葉, Koto no ha" which literally means "leaves of word".
In ancient times 紀 貫之 Ki no Tsurayuki, a nobleman and poet who participated in creating a collection of 和歌 (a traditional Japanese poem of thirty-one syllables) known as 古今和歌集 Kokin Waka-shu.
He wrote in the preface that "やまとうたは ひとのこころをたねとして よろずのことのはとぞなりにける" (Japanese poems is born from the people's heart and flourishes in the myriad leaves of words.)
*蝉時雨 semi shigure
蝉(semi) means cicada and 時雨(shigure) means squall. Semi-shigure depicts noisy cicada like the sound of sudden squall.
*花 は 移り に けりな
This sentence was inspired by the ancient poem by Onono komachi
花の色は うつりにけりな いたづらに
Hana no iro wa utsuri ni kerina itazurani
わが身世にふる ながめせしまに
waga mi yo ni furu nagame seshima ni
(古今和歌集 kokin waka shu, 小野 小町 Onono komachi)
