パープルタウン Purple Town 〜You Oughta Know By Now〜
八神 純子 Junko Yagami
Released in July 1980, this song was her 9th single. It is amazing to know that this song is over 40 years old! She is one of the first Japanese singer-song-writers of that time. Just like Akiko Yano, she plays a piano and sings with high tone voice.
I really like her songs but searching through wiki, I was shocked to find out that this song was controversial over the similarity of Ray Kennedy's song, "You Oughta Know By Now". So later the song's composer was changed to "Junko Yagami, Ray Kennedy, Jack Conrad, David Foster" so as the name of the song.
I checked "You Oughta Know By Now" and I must admit that Purple Town should be called as a cover song. The melody and the intro was too similar. Even so, her version has its own taste and I still like it very much. It would be fun to listen and compare those two songs.
